Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday" in French and is another name for "Shrove Tuesday" the last day for eating and drinking or celebration before the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Though the carnival itself lasts two weeks Mardi Gras is actually the name for the last day of the Carnival and merrymaking and feasting before Ash Wednesday the first day of 40 days of solemn fasting called Lent and ends on Easter Sunday.
