Grandmother with gift
It is set aside to honor Grandmother and GrandfatherGrandparents. The day is observed much the same as Mother's Day or Father's Day. Visiting, gift giving and remembrances mark the occasion.

A little history: The impetus for a National Grandparents Day originated in 1970, with West Virginia housewife, Marian McQuade. Years of effort paid off when, in 1978, the United States Congress passed legislation subsequently signed by President Jimmy Carter, proclaiming the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day.

September was chosen for the holiday, to signify the 'autumn years' of life. Through this holiday we honor grandparents, give them an opportunity to show love for their children's children and help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.
